Freelance vCISO – AppSec & Cloud Security

Up Security is looking for a senior freelance cybersecurity consultant to serve as a strategic and technical security leader for multiple technology companies.

This is not a compliance-only or governance-focused CISO role.

We are looking for a deeply technical security leader with strong hands-on Application Security and Cloud Security expertise — someone who can operate as a trusted advisor to engineering leadership while still understanding the technical reality on the ground.

You will work directly with startups and technology companies, helping them build secure products, mature security programs, and make high-impact architectural and security decisions.

What You’ll Do?

• Lead AppSec, Cloud Security, and Product Security initiatives across multiple clients

• Act as a Fractional CISO / strategic security advisor for technology organizations

• Drive Secure SDLC processes and security maturity programs

• Perform threat modeling and security architecture reviews

• Work closely with R&D, DevOps, Product, Infrastructure, and executive leadership

• Define security standards, policies, and practical implementation roadmaps

• Review and improve cloud-native architectures across AWS / Azure / GCP

• Guide secure development practices for APIs, microservices, CI/CD, and Kubernetes environments

• Help clients translate security risks into practical technical and business decisions

• Advise on AI / LLM security risks, data exposure, prompt abuse, and secure adoption practices

What We’re Looking For

Strong hands-on background in Application Security and/or Cloud Security

Experience working closely with engineering and development teams

Security Architect / Product Security mindset

Deep understanding of modern application and cloud architectures

Experience with Secure SDLC, threat modeling, and secure design reviews

Ability to lead security processes without direct authority

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

High level of ownership, independence, and consulting maturity

Strong Advantages:
