Maternity leave cover for 6 months

Purpose Of The Role

To prepare refugees in Israel for resettlement to Canada by leading an engaging Canadian Orientation Abroad (COA) course, as well as revising and creating material for that course. To provide a Canadian example and perspective in the classroom. To perform administrative duties supporting COA delivery. Will work alongside another person in the same role, switching duties as needed.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the COA Manager and overall programmatic oversight of the International Office of Migration (IOM) Canadian Orientation Abroad Global Programme Manager (Geneva), the Tel Aviv, Israel-based, Canadian Orientation Abroad Training Coordinator will alternate between providing trainings and providing administration and logistics. All administrative and financial responsibilities will be in coordination with the HIAS Israel office.

Administrative duties

Complete administrative tasks associated with COA delivery including but not limited to ordering supplies, handling maintenance, managing petty cash and contracting with vendors/service providers, in coordination with the Administrative Manager of the HIAS Israel office and under the guidance of its Finance Manager. Organize lunches, childcare, transportation, reimbursement, interpreters, and workspace.

Schedule classes, including organizing and dividing participants into training groups according to language, availability and other factors.

Contact all students prior to the training start date by phone to inform them of their need to attend.

In a timely and accurate manner, complete reports and gather statistical data in coordination with the Canadian Embassy and IOM.

Attend and actively contribute to remote COA Team meetings and IOM professional meetings.

Training duties

Conduct Pre-Departure Orientation to refugees bound for Canada. Teach ongoing, learner-centered classes of varying sizes, remotely and in person using the Canadian government/IOM Canada-approved curriculum.

Effectively partner and communicate with a COA Interpreter, engaging in regular discussions of class dynamics and any issues or problems, as a way to ensure an informative, productive class.

Assist with creation, development and revision of curriculum and class activities in conjunction with the IOM COA Program Manager.

Assist with developing and revising class activities; develop training materials, visual aids, and maintain learning walls in the training room that support the objectives of the Canadian Orientation Abroad curriculum.

Ensure the accuracy of all COA content, research and update documents and other resources whenever necessary.

Maintain and file accurate COA attendance and other records.

Other General Duties

Participate in and contribute to Facilitation and Staff Development Workshops.

Participate in online and other staff training sessions provided by HIAS, IOM.

Any other tasks as assigned by COA Manager.

Key Skills And Attributes

Must be legally able to work in Israel and as such, subject to Israeli labor laws.

Native or highly fluent English speaker. (Having lived long-term in Canada is a plus).

Excellent command of Hebrew (verbal & written).

Previous teaching/training experience.

Experience working with Eritrean and Sudanese refugees

Proven interpersonal skills and cross-cultural sensitivity.

Excellent communication and listening skills (written and verbal).

Good planning, time management and scheduling skills.

Able to work with Microsoft Office applications, the Internet and other databases to create documents and access information.
